In September the second of a series of art shows at The Adams Horse Stable on West Bridge Street in Saugerties will feature the works of artist and writer Wayne Sittner.
Howard Fritz Haller, CFP®, is inviting the public to his historic office building for a reception on Thursday, September 22, opening a month long show of a 30 year retrospective of Sittner's remarkable works in water media.
Wayne Sittner came to Ulster County in late 1968 from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania where he received an undergraduate degree from Wilkes University. All the subjects depicted in this set of paintings were found within a 25 mile radius of his current home in Saugerties, some as long ago as the mid-1970s, others as recently as last year. He remarks that his greatest satisfaction has come from a personal feeling of accomplishment gained through experimenting with different types of water media. The challenge of trying to capture various subjects successfully has always been his ultimate goal.
After completing a graduate degree at SUNY New Paltz, he taught art in Kingston at every level from kindergarten to adult education. He is also a poet and has written on his diverse interests in railroad history and car racing.
Sittner has been elected to membership in several national artist organizations and won awards in The Academic Artists Association, Allied Artists Association, and The National Academy of Painters in Casein and Acrylic.
The setting of the show is The Adams Horse Stable, an outstanding mid-19th Century example of Gothic Revival architecture, which housed fine ice racing horses and still displays a beam carved with the names Ice Angel and River Queen and the date 1862. It is now the office of H. Haller Financial.
The public is invited to attend the opening reception without charge on Thursday, September 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at 28 West Bridge Street, Saugerties. Refreshments will be served. Art works may be viewed weekdays until the end of October. Call 246-1618 for information.
